SAFM’s Bec & Soda bring joy to flood affected Riverland communities

In the wake of the worst natural disaster in South Australia’s history, SAFM’s Bec & Soda and The Garden of Unearthly Delights are pleased to present a special free concert for the flood affected communities in the Riverland.

The Riverland Garden Party is the creation of Adelaide radio personalities Mark Soderstrom and Rebecca Morse.

Since coming together on SAFM’s new breakfast show Bec & Soda, they’ve been working with The Garden of Unearthly Delights Producer Michelle Buxton to create a much-needed opportunity for the Riverland community to enjoy a night of laughs and fun.

The free event will be a big night of all-star Garden comedy and circus performances, starring Tom Gleeson, Harley Breen, Ivan Aristeguieta, Markus Birdman from Best of the Edinburgh Fest, Dave Thornton, Laser Kiwi and more.

Bec and Soda can’t wait:

“The Riverland is such an iconic part of our state, and it has been heart breaking to watch what has happened over the last few months. We know making the trip down to Adelaide to enjoy The Garden of Unearthly Delights will be difficult for residents of the Riverland as they work through the clean-up, so we’ve decided to take The Garden to them. If we can bring just a small amount of relief and some laughs to everyone, it’s the least we can do.”

Riverland communities in South Australia’s east have faced immense hardship since the floods began in 2022, with up to 4,000 properties inundated with water and 3,500 properties disconnected by SA Power Networks. While the peak of the floods is passing, river communities face a long clean-up over coming months as waters slowly recede revealing the damage beneath. Tourism businesses have been adversely impacted during what is normally their busiest and most lucrative time of year – when visitors holiday by the river.

The Garden of Unearthly Delights Producer Michelle Buxton says “Floods are absolutely devastating for both residents and businesses, and it is heartbreaking to see the damage inflicted on the Riverland. I’m thrilled that some of our all-time favourite Garden of Unearthly Delights artists have offered their time to be part of the Riverland Garden Party and I hope that this huge night of entertainment gives The Riverland community a small burst of joy on their long road to recovery.”

The Riverland Garden Party will be held at the Renmark Rovers Football Club on Monday 20th February 2023, and free tickets are available now.

Listen to Adelaide’s Bec & Soda, on 107.1 SAFM from 6am-9am weekdays and the LiSTNR app.
