Ricki-Lee chats to Ben, Liam & Belle about filming new #1 single: “I’ve never felt colder”

With Ricki-Lee’s new single currently #1 on the iTunes singles chart, Nova 100’s Ben, Liam & Belle breakfast show spoke with Nova’s new drive show announcer about standing on a rock face and seeing death on either side while filming her new video clip in New Zealand.

And Ricki-Lee confesses that she’s not forcing her Nova drive co-hosts to sit around and listen to her single when it plays on air.

Liam joked that when her song comes on air, she’d say to Nova listeners: “Here’s, well … me. Turn this one up.”

Ricki-Lee said “It’s quite strange, when we are doing the show and my song might be on during the show, we don’t sit around and be all weird and listen to it. Imagine if I made everyone just come in and sit in the room and groove to the song. It’s really fun when I get to hear it but we’re mostly just talking over it when it’s on (air).”

Ricki-Lee opened up about the experience of filming the video on the side of a mountain.

“We split it over two days, the first day we shot the first half of the video which is in black and white, and I mean like a pool of water, in a beautiful gown and it looks stunning but it was like two degrees, the wind chill was below zero, they were raining freezing cold tank water on me, it was like freezing cold bullets punching me in my face, over and over and over again and I’ve never felt colder in my life. I literally couldn’t feel my legs, it was like I’d had an epidural.”

“The next day we jumped in a chopper, and the director took me and two other people up to the highest mountain they could find, I was basically standing on a rock face and off either side of that was death. They literally put the skis of the helicopter into the side of the mountain and I had to hike up in the dress and stand up there and do those last scenes. It was really crazy. My husband, when I got back , was like thank God … (you’re safe).”

Liam suggested that she’s got pop unlocked but if she ventured into metal core or a different genre, “Freezing Cold Bullets Punching Me in the Face could be the name of your next single, that’s quite a lyric, that stays with you.”
