Ray Hadley apologises for suggesting prison guard had sex with inmate

Former Assistant Editor

2GB‘s Ray Hadley has made an on-air apology over remarks regarding former prison guard Demmi Zeschke.

As SMH reports, Hadley told his listeners in July that Zeschke, 22, had sex with Long Bay prison inmate and convicted drink-drive killer Jarad Smith.

“He’s in jail. Let me tell you, he was caught having sex with a prison officer in the Long Bay gym,” said Hadley.

“She resigned. She wasn’t sacked, she resigned so she could be with her lover. Not in the physical sense, because he’s still in jail.

“How do I know it happened? The stupid young female officer has gone onto Instagram and shown her ring finger on her left hand with his initials tattooed on that ring finger. I mean, hashtag finger banger.”

Following a legal letter sent to 2GB and Hadley by Zeschke, the shock jock issued this apology on air.

“During my programs on 25, 26 and 27 July, I mentioned a former prison officer from Long Bay jail against whom allegations were made that she slept with a prisoner, Jarad Michael Smith,” said Hadley on Monday.

“I’ve since heard from this woman, Demmi Zeschke, who has said without reservation that while there was some sort of relationship it was not sexual in nature.

“She did not resign in relation to any investigation into that relationship. Given that, I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to her.”

Another unsubstantiated, non researched slamming of a member of the public by non genuine announcers on 2gb. #ratingsovertruth

How can we trust anything Ray Hadley says? He said Scott Morrison was liar and wasn’t having on his show again. Now he’s Prime Minister suddenly it’s okay to be a liar. Huh? Ray Hadley is a bit forgettable these days.
