Radio still the main place for discovering music
The Nielsen 'Music 360' report is a mid year look at the music industry (although the stats are from the U.S. it is still a very interesting read).
It shows that radio is still the main source of music consumption with 62%, with CD's on 56%, YouTube 50%, iTunes 36% with Pandora 33% and other music streaming services playing a definite role in how music is consumed.
The report also showed that 44% of people access music on a computer, 42% on radio, 39% on a CD player or stereo and 27% via iPods (other than phone).
David Bakula, Senior VP of client development at Nielsen, said in a statement…
"While younger listeners opt for technologically advanced methods, traditional methods of discovery like radio and word-of-mouth continue to be strong drivers."
