Radio Ratings Survey 3 results: new leader in Perth
It’s survey day.
Commercial radio saw a year on year increase of 53,000 listeners, with 12.5 million Australians tuning in weekly, while streaming grew to 3.3 million weekly listeners, up by 55,000 Australians YOY.
In-car listening continues to deliver growth, adding 266,000 weekly listeners YOY to reach 10.3 million Australians weekly. Time spent listening (TSL) to commercial radio at work also increased significantly, up 48 minutes year-on-year to 12 hours 48 minutes. Commercial radio streaming in cars grew 11 minutes year-on-year to 1 hour 37 minutes, while home streaming remained steady at 3 hours 34 minutes.
CRA’s Lizzie Young said: “The 25-54 demo growth tells you everything about radio’s commercial appeal; we’re adding 116,000 weekly listeners in the group that drives purchasing decisions. Streaming gives us new ways to reach them, but the fundamental advertiser value remains the same: engaged audiences during high-attention moments.”
The survey was conducted for Commercial Radio & Audio between Sun Mar 9 to Sat Apr 12 & Sun Apr 27 to Sat May 31, 2025

An old chestnut but separating into AM and FM doesn’t always make sense eg Fiveaa breakfast/workdays competes for the same audience as Triple M and Mix Adelaide, eg talent has swapped between stations over time, drive sports shows, mix/mmm increases see decrease in fiveaa etc
Its not Sydney.
Although 2GB did pretty well this survey, it’s a bit of a worry that other news/sports stations in Sydney didn’t see ratings increases of their own. I mean, didn’t 702 ABC Radio Sydney used to shine during Election periods? Particularly odd when you also take into consideration how most of Sydney voted, but that’s another story.
Smooth 95.3 is more or less powering on, while a 1.3% ratings drop for KIIS Sydney between 7pm and midnight may explain why Zach & Dom recently got the flick.
Elsewhere, I’d say the jury’s still out on Gold’s recently revised lineup although I’d be massively surprised if the overbearing Higgo rates highly in Sydney for an extended period of time. Gen Y Ry’s mid-May return to Jonesy & Amanda may help 101.7 brekky ratings in coming surveys though!
Classic Hits 2UE seems to be trending in the right ratings direction, although I can’t help but feel they’d be performing even better with stronger local presenters in key weekday shifts and an ad campaign targeted at disgruntled 95.3/101.7 listeners.
If those big (yet unsurprising in light of recent upheaval) falls for Nova 96.9 and Triple M 104.9 are an indication of anything, expect sweeping changes at those two stations before long!
As for 2DayFM, Survey #4 will probably determine whether Jimmy & Nath with Emma are even still on-air in Spring. They really need to get above 4% in July, I think.
