Radio gets into the Cup Day spirit
Break out the chicken sangas and bubbly, It’s Cup Day in Melbourne and it looks like the weather gods have served up a cracker of a day, with bright blue, sunny skies for The Race That Stops a Nation.

With the city in party mode, Gold 104.3’s Toni Tenaglia shared stunning pics to social media of the hot air balloons which filled the skies outside the windows of station headquarters in Goodwood Street, Richmond.
Also this morning, race caller Matt Hill (main photo) joined Ross and Russ on 3AW Breakfast as he prepares to call his eighth Melbourne Cup today.

Yesterday, Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren chatted to former Melbourne Cup winning jockey Damien Oliver, who shared memories of his most treasured Cup victories.
“The most memorable would obviously be Media Puzzle, when I lost my brother the week before. But they’re all pretty special.”
As for his Melbourne Cup tip, Ollie said “Yeah, I think Buckaroo is my top pick … and a bit of an outsider I don’t mind as well, who’s really coming into form at the right time, is a horse called Okita Soushi. One to keep an eye out for.”
Whether you’re a fan of horse racing or not, the first Tuesday in November is often the one day of the year that people – who have next to no interest in the sport – decide to have a little punt and follow the action.
Nine is the official broadcast partner of the Melbourne Cup, which can be heard live this afternoon on 3AW (click the LISTEN button on the station’s website).
Radio listeners can also follow the Cup Day action on Melbourne’s RSN Racing & Sport on 927 AM, SEN Track (via the SEN app or the local frequency) and nationally via ABC Grandstand.
Live racing radio is available in New South Wales via Sky Racing Radio, with TAB providing audio for Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory racing.
