Nova’s new podcasting head Rachel Corbett joins Game Changers

Former Assistant Editor
Rachel Corbett

Rachel Corbett is Craig Bruce’s latest guest on Game Changers: Radio, with the ex-Mamamia podcast boss this week landing a new job with NOVA Entertainment.

She is the second guest on the latest iteration of the highly successful industry podcast, focussing on life after radio called ‘I’m Out. Now What?’

Corbett founded online podcasting course PodSchool, and Bruce asked her what it was like being ahead of the curve when it came to podcasting.

“Necessity ends up throwing you somewhere that looks really lucky, but in reality it was a lot of years of slogging it out post-radio to really get a sense of where I wanted to be, and where I had the most natural fit,” she says.

“For me, stepping out into podcasting seemed like a no-brainer because it didn’t feel like much of a shift, because essentially I just wanted working full-time in radio anymore.

“I just kept doing the work I wanted to do, but in my own time. Then I started to teach it because I realised there was a lot I learnt in radio that podcasters didn’t know.

That’s when Corbett realised she liked the teaching more than she liked the “doing”.

“It was the first time in my career that I had actually realised how much I new, and how I could help other people with the stuff that I knew.”

“Radio is a hard old business. You can be working your arse off, and be really good at your craft, and not ever feel like it feels that way.”
