Prosecutors drop all charges against man at the centre of Serial podcast

Reporter

Eight years after the case against Adnan Syed became the centre of the hit podcast Serial, US prosecutors have dismissed all charges against him.

Imprisoned for more than twenty years, the 41 year old was released last month after the overturning of a murder conviction, the case detailed in the podcast.

A jury convicted him over the murder of his high school girlfriend in 1999, but Syed always maintained his innocence.

Syed’s name became nationally known with the release of Serial in 2014.

A follow-up podcast, Undisclosed, as well as the book Adnan’s Story: The Search for Truth and Justice After Serial – both by Syed’s longtime advocate Rabia Chaudry – along with the 2019 HBO documentary series The Case Against Adnan Syed questioned the integrity of Syed’s conviction.
