Programming changes at Perth’s 6PR

Reporter

6PR has announced a range programming changes aimed at ensuring the station’s long term sustainability.

Nine Radio Managing Director Tom Malone says “Unfortunately this means that we’ll no longer get to hear Julie-anne Sprague (main photo) or Tod Johnston on our airwaves.”

“This is a sad and tough day for the Afternoon and Nights teams along with our listeners, and we deeply appreciate their contributions to 6PR.”

Nine Radio notes the advertising market in Perth has been tough in recent years, with rising costs adding extra pressure to the company’s financial performance.

The adjustments being made are designed to help return the station to profitability over the next 12 months.

The changes, which are due to take effect from Monday, include:

Breakfast with Millsy and Karl: 6am – 10am

Mornings with Gary Adshead: 10am – 2pm

Drive with Oli Peterson: 2pm – 6pm

Wide World of Sports: 6pm – 8pm (extended to 2 hours)

Money News: 8pm, followed by Tony McManus from 9pm, broadcasting to both Melbourne and Perth

Nine Radio will also reinvest in its Direct Sales capability to boost revenue.

I’m really sad to see Julianne go. She is so much more fun to listen to than the usual female presenters.

I cannot see that ‘returning the station to profitability’ has any significance if nobody is listening any more.

I chose to listen to PR because it was the only station that was broadcasting locally, for a local audience. And i enjoyed listening. But….

Your programming changes are beyond acceptable to this listener, and I will be investigating other options, even the ABC which I gave up on, and FM radio stations, of which there are quite a few.

It’s the morning presenters they needed to get rid of, currently it’s 6hrs of negativity hence why I’ve tuned out

They got rid of the 2 best presenters on the station. I just don’t get it. And they’ve extended the sports segment too?!
Boring! I wish they didn’t have sport on 6PR at all. It’s supposed to be a ‘talk-back’ station…???

I won’t be listening in any more.

Tod, I am so sad to see you go. You were keeping my sanity (and my faith in humans too) by being so awesome on 6PR.

Nine Entertainment/Radio – you suck.

And re Diana’s comment above – you are absolutely spot-on. I see more and more listeners leaving now, and I’m predicting that by this time next year, 6PR will be completely gone

They clearly don’t give a crap about what we want over here in Perth. As usual, us folks in the West are gonna get shafted – again. There’ll be no more decent local talk-back stations here soon, and we won’t even get a say in that. Go figure…

Sadly I have tuned out of 6pr….never a big fan of the abc but they are now my preferred station ….sadly neither simon beaumont or ollie peterson have the mongrel in them to report on current affair issues in an effective manner and both appear (to me) to be afraid of bringing people to account in their interviews.
