Podcast released on cassette only

A Canadian politics podcast is releasing a special episode on cassette only.

Satire show Canadian Politics Is Boring is experimenting with digital scarcity by embracing analogue scarcity.

The episode titled An Incomplete History of The Hudson Bay Company will only exist as 50 cassettes that can only be played on retro devices.

The podcast is one of Canada’s fastest growing political satire shows. Having previously released over 200 episodes since the show started in 2018, this one off episode is 48 minutes long (Side A and Side B).

The team plans to delete all digital versions once released.

Host Rhys Waters says “Podcasts are famously free and accessible to all. We thought it would be fun to go the other way.”

“There is real nostalgia for older formats. As someone who grew up listening to cassette tapes in my dad’s 1980s Toyota Corolla, this was such a fun idea. Mixing a new format like a podcast with an old method of distribution.”
