Pilko awarded OAM

Former 2UW Sydney and 5AA and 5AD Adelaide star Tony 'Pilko' Pilkington has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), in the Queens Birthday honours list.

Pilko was highly successful as part of the 'Bazz and Pilko' breakfast show in Sydney for many years with Barry Ion, and subsequently on 5AA Breakfast, before his retirement at the end of 2010.

He has told News Limited of his surprise at the success of 'Bazz and Pilko' on 2UW; 

"When you look back on it, all we were doing was just amusing ourselves. We were surprised so many other people enjoyed it. One of the standout moments was going to broadcast in Moscow for a couple of weeks in the early '90s"
