Paul Thompson celebrates milestone

Staff Writer

Paul Thompson is the only person to have built two national radio networks in Australia (Austereo and dmg), he is an inductee into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame and is quite rightly regarded as the most influential person in radio in this country.

He is now retired from radio, although I'm sure he still monitors it closely.

Today, Paul is celebrating his 70th birthday with a dinner in Noosa with family, including daughter Sam (Group Content Director of MCM Media) and son Cam (Sports Director at Fiveaa).

In Dan Bradley's article 'Great Leaders Win' (here) he summed up what Paul meant to many radio people that had the pleasure of working with, or for, him:

"Paul Thompson is not the most important person in Australian radio history because of his technical abilities (although they were clearly strong), but rather his place in history is assured because of his exceptional ability as a leader."
