On yer bike: The ABC’s Pat Hession hits the road for a good cause

Reporter

Pat Hession – a familiar radio name at ABC North Queensland – has hopped on his mountain bike, pedalling from Townsville to Port Douglas for a very good cause.

I’m fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service so that everyone living in rural, remove and regional Australia has access to medical aid, emergency services and other vital healthcare support,” says Pat.

Based in Townsville, Pat is the ABC’s Emergency Broadcast Lead, working with teams around the country to provide emergency information to the national broadcaster’s radio and social media audiences.

Having lived and worked all over Queensland, Pat first started in community radio and TV before moving to commercial radio in 1998.

In 2004, he took over as the morning presenter with ABC Western Queensland in Longreach and has also spent time with ABC Tropical North in Mackay.

I love to hear about radio people (and there are lots of you out there) who get on their bikes, sleep out in the middle of winter, put on their running shoes, or do something to help those who are less fortunate than us. Well done, Pat, and anyone else who puts their caring into action.
