Oarsome effort: Bianca, Ben and Lakey to Row For Life

There’ll be no ‘gently down the stream’ next Friday -August 4 – when 90.9 Sea FM’s Bianca, Ben and Lakey go oar for oar at the second Row For Life at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium.

After raising over $50,000 for 10 local charities last year, the First Choice Solar – Row For Life event is back with the aim of raising $100,000 for 4ASD Kids Charity and local Gold Coast mum Georgia Kidd, who’s suffered a life-threatening stroke earlier this year.

So, Bianca, Ben and Lakey have called in their heavyweight mates to row as teams.

The first sign ups for Ben Hannant’s team are Olympic kayaker Kenny Wallace, former Broncos captain Alex Glen and former NZ NRL player Sam Perritt.

Joining Lakey, it’s former Australian rugby league international Greg Bird as well as reality television personality David Subritsky.

Bianca has announced her secret rowing weapon as Gold Coast drag queen Roxie Harte, who will row in full drag, including killer heels!

Legendary footy star Mat Rogers, co-founder of 4ASD Kids Charity – together with his wife Chloe – will both be at the event.

More team members will be announced next week.

The 90.9 Sea FM Brekkie team will also broadcast live from the event, making their rowing challenge even more difficult.

Bianca says the challenge is nothing compared to what Georgia is going through.

“A clot blocked blood flow to Georgia’s brain earlier this year, and surgeons were forced to remove part of her skull. She was placed on life-support for nine days, and while she’s on the road to recovery, and has been into the studio with Ben and Lakey and I, it’s a long and expensive journey.”

“That’s why we are supporting her, it’s what Gold Coasters do.”

This year the event will feature 60 x Concept 2 Rowers lined up side by side, with each participant facing the ambitious challenge of rowing a full marathon (42.2 kilometres) either as part of a team or individually.

The Gold Coast’s sporting, corporate, and business communities are being urged to come together and show their support.
