Staff Writer

New Zealand’s first ratings survey for 2019 has been released, and NZME’s Newstalk ZB extended its lead as the #1 commercial station.

Newstalk ZB delivered the biggest audience since GfK’s commercial surveys began, with a 12% share overall amount People 10+ and 17% on Breakfast.

“The Mike Hosking Breakfast continues to deliver exceptional, quality, in-depth news and interviews. Kerre McIvor’s new Mornings show has picked up where Leighton Smith left off – number one nationally, a brilliant result that highlights Kerre’s qualities as a world-class broadcaster,” says Shayne Currie, managing editor for NZME.

Meantime, The Edge was the top station when it came to cume, delivering weekly audience of 608,500.

Overall, radio reached 3.6 million or 83% of New Zealanders each week.

“Commercial Radio continues to hold its place as a powerful channel for advertisers with over 3.3 million people listening to commercial radio stations,” said CEO of the Radio Broadcasters Association Jana Rangooni.

“Radio continues to provide advertisers with the ability to reach not only large audiences, but also audiences that are targeted and highly engaged with the stations they listen to.

Whether it’s for the music, news and information or the entertaining personalities, people have a strong and loyal connection to the stations they listen to.”
