Nova newsreader Ange Anderson to trek the Himalayas

Nova Brisbane newsreader Ange Anderson is in training. Serious training. In just a couple of months, she’ll be trekking the Himalayas for a good cause.

As a recipient of Nova Entertainment’s Golden Grant, Ange will undertake a trek with the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation to raise money and awareness.

“Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation has an alliance with Nepal and they do this trip every now and again. I think its once every second year.

“What we do is trek through all the villages and educate the women about the need to have a pap smear and the need for young women to have the Gardasil vaccination.

“The money that we raise is put into the clinic to access those things for free”.

It’s not the first time that Ange has undertaken a challenge. A few years ago, she trekked the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea with the breakfast team.

“I absolutely loved it. I found it almost like a cleansing experience. Being able to switch off all communications and spend some time away from everything really just helped me clear my mind.

“I thought ‘I really need to do something to challenge myself’. Not mentally, but physically as well. It’s just given me something to work towards.”

Ange sets off on her adventure in early April. The money she raises goes directly to providing health care for the women of Nepal, where cervical cancer remains one of the big killers.

While the Golden Grant covers the cost of the trip, Ange is actively fundraising for the women of Nepal. For every $1,500 raised, at least 90 women will receive care.

“I aim to raise more than that to leave a legacy after a fantastic trip. My goal has been to raise at least double that.

“I’ve tapped into some contacts that I’ve made though radio in the Brisbane community and have been able to get some really generous donations for prizing.

“I’m doing a raffle at the moment, which will be drawn on March 15th. It’s all online so its really easy to access for anyone who might want to follow the journey.”

To participate in Ange’s raffle, head to the official website. Today is your last chance to enter, with the winner drawn at 5pm!

Launched in 2016, the Golden Grants allow Nova Entertainment staff to achieve their goals in three categories: Charitable, Physical and Mental/Spiritual. Ange was one of six staff recognised as 2017 winners of Nova’s Golden Grants.
