Nova 106.9’s Susie O’Neill goes from breaking records to spinning them

Nova 106.9’s Brisbane brekky announcer and Olympic swimming great Susie O’Neill has swapped the pool deck for the DJ decks.

Last night, Susie’s alter ego ‘DJ Lazy Susan’ headlined one of Brisbane’s hottest shows of 2024: The Butterfly & Bangers World Tour.

Susie took to the decks at The Met Brisbane in front of a thousand Nova listeners and VIP guests.

Afterwards, she was joined on stage by ARIA award-winning DJ Jolyon Petch, with the crowd whipped into a dance floor frenzy by Susie’s disc spins and dance moves.

Earlier in the year, Susie had mentioned to her Nova radio colleagues Ash and Luttsy that she’d missed the nightclubbing scene back in her youth because of swimming, so the DJ idea was born.

Susie gave a shout out to those who had helped make her DJ dreams come true including Charlie Hustle and Steve Full, who gave her lessons, and Mash’d N Kutcher, Reuben from Peking Duk, and Scott Tweedie, who gave her advice.

“The Australian DJ community is not only world class, but they are so nice, and I’ve been lucky enough to get advice and lessons from the best. And to be joined on stage by superstar DJ Jolyon Petch was simply amazing, ” Susie said.

“Were my transitions seamless? No. Was it fun?  Yes.  Do I respect DJs more now? Absolutely.  Would I do it again? Absolutely NOT. This was definitely a one-and-done and I’m very happy to go back to the brekkie show with Ash and Luttsy!”
