No power: nightmare first day for breaky duo

Staff Writer

It was meant to be their first big day but for SnowFM’s new breakfast team, Sam Blacker and Emily Goddard aka Blackers and Ems, a blackout left them high and dry this morning.

The lights were still off when Goddard spoke to Radio Today.

“We have been in a power outage since just before 7,” she said.

“No automation working, no screens, no RCS Selector or Master Control.”

It’s the kind of situation announcers have nightmares about. So just how did the Breaky Central team deal with the problem?

“Blacker had the brilliant idea of playing songs off his phone straight into the mic,” Goddard explained.

“His theme of music was mood-lifting tracks, and mine was songs to do with light (incluing Five's When the Lights Go Out).”

Ten points for innovation.

Blacker and Goddard replace former breakfast host Scott McLaren who has moved into a workday shift at SnowFM.
