News Fighters podcast joins Sanspants Radio

Staff Writer

The News Fighters podcast will join Australian podcast distributor Sanspants Radio in 2021, with new episodes hitting feeds from Monday, January 11.

The podcast launched two years ago and has self-released 50 episodes already.

News Fighters is created, produced and presented by TV comedy editor Dylan Behan, who worked on The Chaser and then became senior editor of the ABC’s since-axed Tonightly with Tom Ballard.

Sanspants Radio launched in 2012 at La Trobe University and now hosts over 15 regular programs.

Previous episodes of News Fighters have covered the bushfires, Brexit, Black Lives Matter and COVID-19 as it attempted to analyse and skewer Australian news, politics and the media.

Behan said we’d still need a laugh in 2021.

“After making sanitised TV comedy by committee for 15 years it’s an honour to have my self-produced podcast of wacky news clips and leftie jokes distributed by Australia’s top home for irreverent and oddball comedy podcasters,” he said.

“With the continuing global pandemic, Australia’s first economic recession in a generation and the impending climate apocalypse, 2021 looks like it will be a great year for topical news comedy! Tune in and have a laugh.”

Head of Sanspants Radio Joel Zammit said the podcast and Behan are filling a gap the company didn’t even know it had.

“Now we can honestly say we are keeping our listeners up to date with what’s going on in the world while still slowly destroying their brain with the rest of the content we produce,” he said.

“We’re super happy that Dylan has made the misguided decision to join the Sanspants family. We’ve been dangerously lacking a well-informed idiot to help us become more-informed idiots and Dylan si the idiot for us (and you).”
