Newcastle Ratings: Newly rebranded Triple M Newcastle finishes the year at #1
Southern Cross Austereo is still the #1 station in Newcastle, with Triple M Newcastle holding the mantle with a share of 13.1% (-0.9) among People 10+.
The station, which officially said goodbye to the name KOFM earlier this month, retained its position at the top of the tree despite continuing to lose share, having begun the year with a 16.8% share of listening.
It was a great book for 1232 ABC Newcastle, with the national broadcaster climbing into second spot overall with 12.7% (+2.1) to finish ahead of Hit106.9 on 12.1% (-0.6).
NEWFM is still struggling to keep touch with the leaders and ends the year with at 8.7% share (-1.4).
On Breakfast, Triple M Newcastle’s Tanya and Steve staved off a strong performance from Garth Russell, finishing just 0.1% ahead of the ABC Brekky host.
Hit Newcastle had a win on Drive, with national show Hughesy and Kate still easily the top-rating show in the daypart.
ABC Newcastle Drive host Paul Bevan, who recently announced he will retire at the end of the year, is going out on a high. He finishes with a share of 9.8% (+3.0).
Ko and NX used to be so strong in that market. Hit breaky ?
Still number 1 in Newy, great news, despite the rebranding if you have a great team and the content to keep your listeners hooked cannot go wrong. Noticed a slight drop across all brands maybe due to listeners switching to online media.
Watch out for the New2UW.com in 2019, May even have a stable mate before the New Year too. Local radio !
@Scott survey diary’s would have been collected before the rebrand I’d say. Last survey is all KO.
What a wasteland Newfm is. A once great station rusting away like the Signa. Needs a strong pd with a good programming and music strategy. Poor breakfast result and not maximising on local. Look at Hot Tomato, that’s how it’s done guys.
@BigDog – I would be more worried about the ever declining Hit 1069 breakfast show -Starting the year with a 14.6. All of those listeners who sampled the show have abandoned it. Finishing the year on a 10.4…. Alarm bells would be ringing. Content is poor.
If 27% of the surveyed audience is not listening why not include community and fringe stations
