New studio for 2BS & B-Rock in memory Bob Upfold

Staff Writer

A new studio at 2BS and B-Rock in Bathurst is dedicated in memory of former Engineer, Bob Upfold.

The dedication was made Tuesday by Member for Bathurst, Paul Toole on Tuesday, on the seventh anniversary of Bob’s passing.

Bob started his broadcasting career with 2BS (his only employer) at age 15 and, after 50 years of excellence in broadcasting, he retired at the end of 2001.

Initially, keen on the programming side of the business, Bob soon gravitated to the technical and engineering aspects of the business.

Bob saw many technological advances during his career; from 78 records and wire recorders to tape and cartridge machines, LP and 45 records to CD Jukeboxes and computer based program delivery systems.

In 2002, Bob’s efforts were acknowledged when he won the prestigious Australia wide Max Wilson Technical Excellence Award.

Bob had a number of technical trainees including his two sons, Peter and Frazer, David Cox, Phil Cole, Michael Fitzpatrick and Jason Davis.

For more than 20 years the Bob Upfold Award has been presented to the 2BS / B-Rock Employee of the Month.
