New Sony artist Valerie gets early radio action

Sony Music Artist 'Valerie'

Sony Music have released the debut single from their latest Australian signing, Valerie, to radio in Australia and New Zealand this week.

Radio Today spoke with Valerie about the release, and asked her what she’s been listening to?

“Well I’m loving Flume and Tove Lo, but I’m obsessed with Drake! Those beats give me life!”

So after a few months in the making, how does it feel to have the single ‘out in the world’ now?

“It feels amazing and nerve-wracking at the same time. It feels great to finally have the song out, and I can’t wait to play live more and connect with people, which is what I love to do”

It must have been a big move to be signed to a major international label like Sony, after being a successful independent artist, how have you found that?

“At first I felt a little bit intimidated, but Denis (Handlin) was so welcoming and made me feel so welcome to the Sony family. The whole Sony team has been wonderful, I just can’t believe that I get to work with so many talented and dedicated people who are the best in the music industry.”

Valerie, who has lived in Melbourne for the last few years, is of Mauritian heritage, and has been a development act for Sony since being signed a year ago. Her debut single, “I’ll Be Loving You”, serviced to radio this week, is already seeing strong radio additions out of the blocks on CHR and Hot AC formats.

In Australia, the track was added to Hot Tomato Gold Coast, K-Rock Geelong, the Ace Radio Network and to the Planet OZ program on KIIS Melbourne, and KIIS Sydney on the day of release.

Whilst in New Zealand, the song has been added to George FM, ZM and Flava, with KISS92 in Singapore also adding the track this week.

Valerie’s I’ll Be Loving You is already at nearly 150,000 plays on Spotify, and is available on PlayMPE at your station now.
