Murdoch vs Fairfax – update

Staff Writer

Last week we told you that Lachlan Murdoch, the now 100% owner of dmg radio australia, was suing Fairfax Media for defamation (see it here)

It came about when a column in 'The Sydney Morning Herald' and 'The Age' claimed he was using News Corp's private jet while Channel Ten struggled.

The information was sourced from News Corp's annual report which referred only to his brother James' use of the jet. Lachlan apparently hasn't used it for 7 years.

It has now been settled out of court for the reported $50,000, which he will donate to the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, and an apology in The Sydney Morning Herald…

The apology read…

“Further to the correction and apology made last Monday, the Herald has agreed to settle a defamation claim brought by Mr Murdoch. Mr Murdoch has elected that the settlement proceeds be paid to the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.”
