Michelle Guthrie allegedly received $500K to drop ABC lawsuit

Former Assistant Editor

The ABC has allegedly settled former managing director Michelle Guthrie‘s lawsuit for half a million dollars.

The AFR reports that it was initially hoped that the case could be settled before the appointment for Ita Buttrose as chair, but was delayed until Friday last week.

Guthrie had been suing the ABC for compensation after her sacking in September, and the report says that negotiations between the two had stagnated before an investment banker was drafted in to assist in reaching a settlement.

The report also alleges that former ABC director Simon Mordant helped to negotiated $500K for Guthrie in addition to the $800K she received as a payout upon her dismissal last year.

Her dismissal resulted in a mass protest by ABC staff, and eventually, the resignation of chair Justin Milne.

Milne’s replacement Ita Buttrose AO OBE was announced by PM Scott Morrison last week.
