Melbourne radio stations at the starting gates for Cup coverage

The Melbourne Cup will host around 10,000 fully vaccinated spectators at Flemington, the biggest crowd Melbourne has seen in three months after lockdown rules have been eased this month.

It’s a particularly exciting day for racegoers who were not allowed to attend last year due to the pandemic.

At this year’s event they won’t need to wear masks outdoors. Race goers will be checked and signed in to their sections of the course for contact tracing purposes.

A range of Melbourne radio stations will broadcast the race, which will be run at 3pm today:

3AW  693 AM

RSN Racing & Sport 927 AM

ABC Grandstand DAB+

Triple M 105.1 FM

SEN 1116 AM

Sky Sports Radio

RadioTAB

What are the hot tips?

The first female Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne chatted with KIIS’ Jase and Lauren ahead of the big race and gave her tips for the race.

On ABC Melbourne, traffic reporter Brad Arnoldt moonlights as a phantom race caller. In his phantom race call this morning the horses had some very familiar names like Sammy J, Virginia Trioli, Raf Epstein and Libbi Gorr.
