MediaWorks Radio CEO Wendy Palmer is stepping down

Staff Writer

After almost 12 years at MediaWorks Radio, chief executive officer Wendy Palmer will leave her post at the end of April.

Palmer has been instrumental in leading the NZ-based business to its #1 position in the market over the course of three years as CEO.

Taking over the role as head of radio is David Gibbs. He will lead the regional managers and branch operations, working closely with group content director – music, Leon Wratt and chief commercial officer, Glen Kyne.

“It has been an absolute privilege to be part of such a brilliant team of people – I cannot thank them enough,” said Palmer, making particular mention to MediaWorks’ highest ever ratings in 2016.

“I am so proud of everything we have achieved together and in particular over the last year,” she continued. “Our great content team for our best ever ratings and the radio business overall for delivering our best ever financial performance. I wish them all the very best for the future.”

MediaWorks CEO Michael Anderson praised Palmer’s achievements, particularly the impact she has had on the process of developing the company’s brand.

“We are really sad to lose Wendy but understand her decision to move on. She leaves our radio business in strong shape – and poised to move forward and capitalise on its leading position – thanks to her brilliant leadership and work with her teams and with clients.

“She has been a great support to me in my time at MediaWorks, and I know I speak on behalf of the many, many people Wendy has worked with when I say she will be greatly missed.”

Hmmm, Mediaworks are not #1 in NZ.

Sure they have good ratings in some markets for some demographics, but they are not the outright number 1 in NZ radio.

Wendy Palmer will be truly missed in her role. Having worked with MediaWorks for 12 years and quite a few with Wendy at More FM and in the CEO Radio role, she is
as good as they come. Wendy is astute in how to grow the business and importantly trusts her people which you need in programming.

By the way Kiwi Radio Fan, MediWorks IS the number 1 radio network in NZ. Last survey had them at 51.6% of the total market with NZME on 38.3%. Looks a clear winner to me!
