Media reform could be ready for approval in July

Staff Writer

The Federal Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull is said to be preparing a package of media reforms for cabinet approval as early as July, reports The Australian today.

This means that major media reform could be coming well before the end of the year.

The key one is said to be the “two-out-of-three” rule, which prevents a single entity owning more than two of three (newspaper, television and radio) licences in the same market.

A spokesman for Turnbull declined to comment on the timing.
