Matt & Alex confirm breakfast radio reunion with SCA & PodcastOne

After sending media and fans into a complete fizzy last week, this morning former triple j breakfast duo Matt & Alex confirmed their reunion plans.

As Radio Today reported on Friday, although some industry folks suspected they could be bound for breakfast or drive, the comedy team are launching a podcast.

Matt Okine and Alex Dyson have inked a deal with Southern Cross Austereo to host Australia’s first on-demand breakfast show, All Day Breakfast.

SCA’s chief content officer, Dave Cameron, said the appetite for on-demand content is rising.

“Just two weeks ago we launched The Briefing, an on-demand news show, and now with Matt & Alex, we are rounding out our offering with an on-demand entertainment product.

“Matt & Alex have certainly been missed and we are pleased to be able to provide the platform that has allowed for their return!”

PodcastOne will publish a new episode at 6am on weekdays, with Okine and Dyson covering the hot topics of the day and sharing their views of the world.  The first episode is out now.

Former Hamish & Andy executive producer, Sam Cavanagh, is the show’s EP.

Okine said he was excited to reconnect with his former co-host and triple j breakfast listeners.

“In a time when the nation is spending all day in their pyjamas, it’s only fitting that we offer them an all-day breakfast show to match,” he said.

Dyson added: “Matt had his first child and I won a championship as the Chicago Bulls on NBA 2k19. I can’t wait to get back together with my radio Scottie Pippen and write a new chapter.”

Last week the pair launched a new Matt & Alex Instagram account with one photo and the caption “hello”, which got online chat rooms speculating on their plans.

Their last radio gig was on the Hit Network last June, for The Sunday Experiment.

That’s a great move Dave. Two very good podcast announcements in a matter of weeks.
Podcast One leading the pack now.

What a load of waffle. No wonder they never rated on Triple J.

Sounds ok but why is SCA and the new Group CD spending so much time on podcasts when there stations are being beaten by the competitors. Do advertisers spend money on podcasting yet ? It’s still a small business isn’t it ? Confused. It’s like having a broken down car, but instead of fixing the engine, you polish the rear view mirror instead.

Why on one hand are SCA hiring ABC staff when they have cut their work force and have staff reduced to four day week and are borrowing money ? Thought they were broke.
