Making The Most Of Celebrity Events

Being in regional radio, the opportunities to interview big name celebrities are few and far between, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of what is on offer.

This week, an interview opportunity for Ryan Maloney, AKA Toadie from Neighbours, arrived in my email.

Rather than just talk about neighbours or play any game, we used the ‘star power’ to relate back to the biggest thing in town this weekend, the inaugural ROAR Music Festival.

It was a clever way to promote the event given that we are a major partner, as well as promote the artists who are coming and have also been on the show this week, plus it gave our listeners a reason to listen even if they weren’t a fan of neighbours.

Ryan was a great sport and the interview had plenty of laughs.

So next time an interview for an MKR or Reno Rumble contestant comes up, think beyond talking about what the drama from that episode is, or playing a game with no real relevance, think about how this talent can help drive your brand, your tactics and your story arcs.
