LiSTNR adds 10 new DAB+ music stations
SCA’s LiSTNR now has 25 DAB+ music stations on its platform after announcing the addition of 10 new offerings.
Earlier this year at a media dinner, SCA CEO Grant Blackley said the platform would launch an additional 35 new music-based radio stations, taking the total to 50, before the end of 2021.
LiSTNR is now one step closer to this commitment with the launch of Kids Hits, 70’s Hits, Girl Power, Crooners + Swooners, Indigenous, Guilty Pleasures, 90’s Soft Pop, Indie & Alt, Jazz and 80’s New Wave.
SCA’s head of music, Mickey Maher, said LiSTNR is aiming to deliver something for everyone “with music to suit your mood, your lifestyle, the genres you love or the new ones you will soon discover”.
“Music has such an amazing power, it can influence our moods, connect us to a time and place, be a companion, be the life of the party, and expose our ears and minds to a new world of sounds and genres,” he added.
A summary of the stations can be found below.
Kids Hits: A commercial-free station with tunes from the 1970s to today aimed at children aged four to 10.
70’s Hits: Showcasing the likes of everything from the Eagles to Fleetwood Mac and the Jacksons.
Girl Power: A female-focused station with music from the 1980s to now including Madonna, Beyonce, Dua Lipa, Pink, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry.
Crooners + Swooners: Softer 1950s and 1960s pop with older jazz standards, as well as covers from today’s contemporaries including Michael Buble and Norah Jones.
Indigenous: Celebrating the diverse and exciting contemporary musical landscape of Australia’s First Nation’s people.
Guilty Pleasures: Embracing the “quirky hits” from the 1980s, ’90s and 2000s, whether it be ‘Mambo No. 5’, ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancing’, or ‘How Bizarre’.
90’s Soft Pop: An easy-listening station with tracks from the likes of Janet Jackson, Savage Garden, Seal, All Saints, TLC and Train.
Indie & Alt: A playlist of indie and alternative anthems from the 2000s to today with The Kid LAROI, Tame Impala and Billie Eilish.
Jazz: Described by LiSTNR as “the perfect ragtime playlist” with a large array of jazz sub-genes featuring Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis.
80’s New Wave: Putting a spotlight on “the new romantics” with big shoulder pads and even bigger synthesisers.
Are they DAB+ stations or just online? Which market are they playing in?
Hey SG,
I have asked SCA for a response on this a few times.
I was initially told “The stations can be heard anywhere, anytime via the LiSTNR app” and that “they’re on DAB too”, however I’ve not heard back about which stations will be in which markets.
I’ll let you know if I hear anything further.
Thanks,
Vivienne – Radio Today
How to dilute your listeners and advertisers by SCA, just add more.
Are they really going to be on DAB? My impression was that they’d be exclusive to the app.
But are people even listening…..?
Is it a DAB+ station if it’s not on DAB+ Terrestrial?
I mean is is techno hit a ‘Digital Audio Broadcast’ via the LISTNR app.
@AussiGuy58 – or.. now hear me out.. this is a great example of how to increase your platform’s appeal by launching more music genres, appealing to a broader audience, which in turn brings more ears to your platform.
What makes you think that only existing LiSTNR users would tune into another music stream?
No male focused station though?
Can’t get mmm Classic Rock on my dab car radio now, not happy!
Hi. I’ve just discovered by accident Croon & Swoon and loving it. This is on a dab+ digital radio. However on other smaller digital radios in the house I can’t find it after trawling through all the stations. Any hints how to get it please? I’d love to have it on my car radio too but it is not digital.
I’m a fan of 80s New Wave since the 80s. I don’t think Kim Wilde’s Chequered Love is new wave which I heard tonight. I want to apply as a DJ or even someone who chooses songs to play 🙂
Love the Croon and swoon music but you guys really need to expand the menu. The same tunes and artists are played day after day. I’ll keep listening but it’s starting to get boring. There are so many artists in this genre surely you increase the number of artists you play.
Is Crooners Swooners still on Listnr why can’t I get service last couple weeks on my DAB+
How does one go about getting a job programming music on 80’s New Wave?
How do I find out who the artist is that i am listening to? Thanks Steve
On DAB there is usually a song title/artist feed if you have a screen to view it. On the LiSTNR app the screen usually shows the song details.
