Meet the Crash FM crew

Staff Writer

Although the Swinburne commercial radio course is about to come to an end, the current students will have their turn at showcasing their skills with the broadcast of Crash FM.

It will start this Monday at 7am and run for 2 weeks.

Crash FM will have a breakfast show, drive show and music shifts all day. After 9pm specialist programs will run catering for punk, indie, movie reviews, love song requests and Aussie music.

The students have also developed a website (here), Facebook page, blogs and twitter feeds.

Let's meet the Crash Crew….

Ally Kallis I only really have one hairstyle, but I ROCK it, and in the summer my sunnies go everywhere with me. I’m the type of friend that will tell you about the piece of lettuce stuck in your teeth, but will laugh about it for the first five minutes. And if sleeping was an Olympic sport, I’d win gold every year.
Beck Lewis I’m 25 years old and I’ve got a severe passion for music; whether it be going to a festival with a bunch of mates or discovering a new artist.  I did three cheeky years at La Trobe University studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Film Studies before this course.
Brendan James Leech I’m a singer, actor, MC, DJ and aspiring radio personality. I’ve got a 2 year old son and my spare time is spent playing trucks, blocks and watching TV. You might have seen me cruising the streets of Melbourne for the Mix 101.1 & Gold 104.3 street teams.
Chi Chi Mester Hi Friend!  I love to watch French Films and read The New Yorker.  I look forward to having your ears and hanging out with you this spring.
Francesca Smith I’m 20 years old and I’ve been doing community radio since 2008.  I also have a Diploma in Screen and Media. I am a huge music nerd, and I sing and play guitar (quite badly).
Jaymee Stigwood Originally from Fremantle, WA, I love post mix coke and Jane Austen. Until recently I was a primary school teacher, but the 12 weeks of paid holidays each year were getting me down. And radio was calling my name. Loudly.
John Takemura I’m 23 and previously did a Bachelor of Journalism at La Trobe University.  I call AFL on community radio. I love my sport, particularly AFL (even though I’m a long suffering Western Bulldogs supporter) and anything soccer related.  I also love to travel and meet new people – I’ve been to over 15 different countries.
Kazmir Simpson I like long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners and… oh wait sorry, wrong website!
I’m the baby of our radio pack at 19 years of age. Fresh out of high school, and I still have a huge love for music and media, hopefully I will be lucky enough to score a job that involves both! My passion for radio grew from years of community radio starting back in the primary school years of grade 6! The course for me this year has been a fantastic stepping-stone in making connections and learning new skills.
Louise Singleton I’ve probably moved around more than a gypsy but my base is Melbourne. My favourite super hero is batman, and my hideout would be on a sunny beach; music would be my energy.
Michael Lamonato Current Formula One nut, sometimes journalist, occasional motorsport newsreader, one-time school teacher, ex-TV producer, and admirer of infomercials.
Pip Enscoe My foot is the same size as John Wayne’s boot and my hand is about the same size as ACDC’s Angus Young.  I’ve been a check-out chick, a bar maid, a travel agent, the Toothfairy (no, really), and somehow I managed to sneak in a teaching degree in there too.  I discovered my love for radio during an exchange semester to Manchester and I’ve been involved in community radio ever since.  Sun-drenched music festivals are my ideal habitat.
Rob James I had a bookshelf land on my head when I was 4, and it’s probably lead me to do this gig. It’s why I enjoy simple things like cars and swearing – none of which I’m allowed to do on the radio. I love cars, I love talking about them, and it’s a constant challenge trying not to put in a racing reference in a talk break.
Sam Blacker I love music and pop culture. I have been chasing all the new music I can find by volunteering at PBS in Melbourne, and going to any gig or music festival I hear about. I also love most aspects of pop culture: sitcoms, comics, games, movies, dramas and stand-up comedy (I have a huuuge collection of stand-up DVD’s).
Sinead Larkins I’m 21, live in Torquay and I love radio. I’ve always loved listening to the presenters and wanted to have the same fun that I hear every time I listen to them. I did a course last year in Screen and Media, TV and Radio. I loved making shows, and promotion stings and ID’s.
