Leisel Jones announces she will be co-captain of 2022 Duel in the Pool

Australian swimming legend Leisel Jones announced live on Triple M’s The Rush Hour with Leisel, Liam and Dobbo that she will be co-captaining the Australians with Grant Hackett in this year’s 2022 Duel in the Pool

“I’d like to announce officially, I am a co-captain, alongside Grant Hackett for Duel in the Pool 2022,” said Leisel.

“I worked my butt off for this.”

This Duel in the Pool event will be exclusively between Australia and the USA in Sydney between 20-21 August this year, with a special long-distance event taking place at Bondi.

This event will be the first Duel in the Pool since 2015.

“They are our greatest rivals, our greatest friends in the pool and this is our opportunity to race head to head,” said Leisel.

“But what makes this year so special is we are going to have matchups like Katie Ledecky and Ariarne Titmus go head to head.”

“It’s going to be massive and I can’t wait to have it back in Australia.”

The last event in 2015 was hosted by the US in Indianapolis, with the winners being the USA on 155-107.

This year’s Duel in the Pool will take place at the Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, and tickets are on sale now with two-day passes available on Ticketek.

“I’m jumping out of my skin to have this opportunity to be a captain – I have no idea how to be a captain, but sure,” said Leisel.

“Tingles down my spine, so much pride.”
