Kyle Sandilands launches new look KIIS 1065 Thunderbirds

Staff Writer

KIIS 106.5‘s new look Thunderbirds hit the streets today.

The new street teams were launched by Kyle Sandilands, with the new mission to of “taking the fun of KIIS 1065 directly to listeners, wherever they are in Sydney’s suburbs.”

Kyle personally spearheaded the launch of the new look Thunderbirds, with a hand in everything from choosing the cars and the design to the launch itself.

“I remember before I was even in radio, one of the great loves of mine was to hear on the radio where the Thunders were… because it was a way I could touch someone from the radio station rather than just hearing,” said Kyle.

“So to show up and there’s the car there with the logo, I just loved it. It seems so simple but I just loved it. This is a rebirth of old, great radio where we take ourselves to the listeners. It’s going to be brilliant.”

KIIS 1065’s new Thunderbird launch is part of a trend in Australian commercial radio in the past couple of years, in something of a rebirth and refocus on street teams of the major networks (including SCA’s Black Thunders and Nova Network’s Cassanovas).

So…

– Hit network has ‘Black Thunders’
– KIIS has ‘Thunderburds’

Perhaps Smooth could launch the ‘Thunder Thighs’?

2GB would have the Tony Abbot Toyotas. Triple M the Bogan Bentleys. Macquarie Sports Radio could hit the streets with the Rust Buckets.

The people at KiiS don’t have any original bone in their body, or anyone else’s, do they.
