KIIS 97.3 and Wendy’s Milk Bar bring back Agro Ice Cream to honour Jamie Dunn

To honour the life and legacy of Jamie Dunn, KIIS 97.3’s Robin, Kip & Corey have teamed up with Wendy’s Milk Bar to bring back the iconic Agro Ice Cream for a limited time, with proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital Foundation Queensland.

Jamie – Agro’s alter-ego – was a fixture in Australian households for over three decades, bringing laughter to generations through Agro’s Cartoon Connection and later becoming a popular radio host.

For Australians growing up in the 80s and 90s, watching Agro on TV became a cherished family ritual, one so deeply ingrained in Aussie pop culture that Wendy’s Milk Bar even released a dedicated Agro Ice Cream, which went on to become a nationwide favourite.

Jamie’s legacy is also deeply personal for many in the radio industry. KIIS 97.3’s own Robin Bailey worked alongside Jamie for years and remembers him fondly.

From Friday 1 May, fans can purchase an Agro Ice Cream for $5, with 50 cents from every cone donated to the Children’s Hospital Foundation Queensland – a charity close to Jamie’s heart, which he supported extensively throughout his radio career.

Robin Bailey said “Jamie would love the fact we are bringing back his ice cream one last time especially as it will also help kids in hospital. His family are right behind this initiative. So come on Brissy, let’s do this for Jamie and Agro as a wonderful way to say thank you and goodbye.”

Kip Wightman said “We are stoked to be part of bringing back the Agro ice cream and giving the kids of today a chance to experience the iconic ice cream.”

Corey Oates added “Yeah, the kids will love it, what’s not to love about a cone dipped in choc malt and a smiley face on it… also what a great way to be able to give to such a good charity.”

To celebrate the revival, Robin, Kip & Corey will be live at Wendy’s Milk Bar at the Forest Lake Shopping Centre on Friday 1 May from 9am to 10am, and are inviting listeners and families to join them in celebrating Jamie’s life one more time.

This special tribute is a chance for Australians young and old to relive a treasured childhood memory, enjoy a classic treat, and support a cause that meant so much to a true Aussie icon.

Listeners are invited to come and enjoy the iconic Agro Ice Cream a creamy soft serve rolled in choc malt and stacked with all your favourite lollies.

Yet their rival SCA (B105 and 4BK where Jamie worked) through its merger with seven actually owns Agro. Interesting but at least some funds go to a great cause.

@Music Radio: I’d assume that Seven/SCA would’ve agreed to come to a deal with Wendy’s Milk Bar and ARN for this Limited Time Promotion.

Also, prior to the SCA merger I’m fairly sure both Seven and ARN had reasonably strong cross media partnerships – often being side by side in sponsoring major events and community service initiatives.

Whatever the case, putting aside the ice creams I wonder what’s going to happen to the physical Agro puppet now that Jamie Dunn is gone. Surely, it deserves to be preserved for posterity somewhere like the National Film & Sound Archive?
