Katya Quigley is joining AFTRS at the end of January as their new Radio Lecturer.

Katya joins AFTRS after a nine year stint in frontline media production, primarily with the ABC.

“Her love of radio began as a child when she spent countless school holidays tinkering in the AFTRS studios and watching her late father Bryon Quigley head the Radio Division in the early 80s,” said AFTRS Head of Radio Lisa Sweeney.

Katya is an experienced producer and presenter, having fronted Mornings at ABC Alice Springs and ABC Mid North Coast. She has also been a researcher and journalist at ABC TV’s Media Watch.

Katya got her start at Newcastle’s 2NUR FM. She then studied Arts/Law at the University of NSW, graduating in 1999.  Katya has worked as a solicitor, policy advisor and strategic communications advisor across State and Federal Government departments.

In 2005 Katya made a dramatic change in career direction, and she completed the Graduate Diploma in Commercial Radio at AFTRS in 2005.

Katya will begin work in late January, hitting the ground running as AFTRS launches three new courses in 2015 – The Advanced Diploma of Radio, Diploma of Digital Content (Radio) and Core Radio Skills.

She replaces Jen Oldershaw, who has left the school after successfully teaching and mentoring many of the current radio professionals working in the industry today
