Jackie O: “We’ve been humbled”

Jackie O Henderson has opened up about the raunchy, rocky launch of KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O Breakfast show into Melbourne, admitting they went way off course and that she now cringes at the X-rated content they served up.
Speaking at HEARD 2025 – Commercial Radio & Audio’s (CRA) audio showcase event in Sydney – Henderson said she and Kyle Sandilands aired some “really f**ked up sh*t,” and were humbled by the reaction when Melbourne listeners decided to opt out.
Kyle and Jackie O finished 2024 with a lowly five percent audience share in the Melbourne FM Breakfast radio wars, a country mile away from the #1 team of Nova’s Jase and Lauren, who ironically made way for the Sydney duo on KIIS 101.1 in the first place.
Henderson also told the audience that Sandilands, who recently revealed he requires surgery for a brain aneurysm, is now looking at buying a house in Melbourne to better understand the market.
“Kyle has gotten all wrapped up in buying a house and spending more time there,” Henderson told the conference, adding that both she and Sandilands plan to spend more time in Melbourne, leaning into the content the city generates.
Kyle and Jackie O’s entry from Sydney into the Melbourne market was jarring, to say the least, but Henderson confirmed that the show has since undergone a reset.
“I cringe when I think (about it),” Henderson said. “Anyway, it is what it is, it is done and now we have to rely on those people to re-tune in and give it (the show) a second chance.”
She expects it will take time for the audience to come around.
“In a weird way, Melbourne not being a success instantly is weirdly a good thing for us,” she said.
“By it not being a success straight away, it humbled us and it made us go ‘Have we lost our way?’”
“(It) really made us reassess where we were at, what we are doing with the show.”
“Kyle and I, we have really good chemistry and (when) we talk and just talk shit it’s good, it’s entertaining, we don’t need that other stuff.”
“I’m not afraid to talk about Melbourne. Not being a success instantly is a good thing for us. In our 20 years of doing breakfast, there were times it went off track a bit. When you’re tested you get taught something.”

I find it funny that Jackie O now finds it “cringe” the sexual content Kyle does on-air.
She’s only been part of the act for 30 years – and yes, this was before she teamed up with Kyle.
Back when I was a teen in the mid 90s, I remember listening when she was doing this type of content (almost joke for joke) with (her then husband) Ugly Phil on the Hot 30.
The only difference was Ugly Phil was smart, and knew this shtick wouldn’t last long and evolved out of it.
If I was to give Jackie O any advice, it would be to negotiate NOW out of her contract. We know of Kyle’s health issues, and PR wise it could be spun that they’ve decided to end things due to Kyle’s health (and recovery that will be needed).
Lay low for the rest of the year, then do a deal with Nine and take over the Entertainment Reporter role from Richard Wilkins in 2026 (who is due for retirement).

@ARN Shareholder have you seen Kyle’s comments today ?? – he doesn’t care about Shareholders he has his money. He also doubled down and said that only he and Jackie control the content – like moving deck chairs on the Titanic

ARN board & shareholders the writing is on the wall for this pathetic excuse for entertainment – your share price Is plummeting. Marty Sheargold didn’t get away with this behaviour and these two are now under the spotlight in the public.
Melbourne has tanked and Sydney is going lower, the hour of power is on its last legs…. Sort this mess out and get it off air.
For the “last 30 yrs”… it’s no longer an excuse and society is over this low brow, dumb excuse of comedy… it’s not funny and your audience is voting with their departure.
