“It’s trash.” Nova’s Clint Stanaway slams the AFL’s new wildcard round
This morning on Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren, co-host Clint Stanaway blasted the AFL’s new wildcard round.
Describing it as ‘gimmicky,’ Stanaway said it rewards mediocrity; sentiments echoed by footy fans across the country:
“So basically, under this system, in the bye week before the finals, the 7th placed team will play the 10th placed team and the 8th placed team will play the 9th placed team. Those two teams will then proceed to week one of the finals … so top six qualify, and then 7th and 8th, which this year, by the way, was Gold Coast and Hawthorn. So Gold Coast would have played Sydney, and Hawthorn would have played the Bulldogs for a spot in the finals.”
“It’s trash, in my opinion. It’s rewarding mediocrity. And I don’t know, they’re doing it to make a but more cash. You know, keep the broadcasters happy.”
Jase & Lauren can be heard from 6am to 9am on Nova 100 in Melbourne. Listeners can stream the show live or catch up with the daily podcast by downloading the Nova Player.
