It’s over: Marty Sheargold parts ways with Triple M

Marty Sheargold’s days at Triple M are done and dusted, with SCA confirming the comedian is leaving the station.
In a statement late today, SCA’s Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron said: “Triple M and Marty Sheargold have mutually agreed to part ways. Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) takes its responsibility to listeners, shareholders, and clients seriously and its programming should align with the standards and expectations of its audience. Right now, it’s clear this is a moment for reflection and review. Triple M, and the wider SCA network, will continue to take all necessary steps to support staff. A new Drive show will be announced in due course. Triple M acknowledges Marty’s contribution over the past four years, and we wish him well for the future.”
Sheargold said “Having mutually agreed to part ways with the Triple M Network, I fully understand the gravity of my comments. I’d like to sincerely apologise to the Matildas and the broader organisation. I would also like to thank my immediate team for their hard work and apologise for the situation they now find themselves in.”
Sheargold was absent from the airwaves this afternoon, following disparaging remarks about women’s sport – specifically the Matildas – followed up by claims that endometriosis is a ‘made up’ disease.
On yesterday’s episode of The Marty Sheargold Show, Sheargold revealed his Executive Producer Whitney Plowman had loaned him a heat pack.
“I’ve done me back. It’s no secret over the last couple of days. I can’t hide it anymore.”
“I’ve got a heat pack behind my back, which is very comforting and thank you to Whitney for bringing her period heat pack here because, God, don’t ladies carry on it. Jesus Christ, there is no end of it. Honestly, endometriosis and this is controversial … no, I’m going to say it. It’s controversial. It’s made up.”
Perth-based former triple j host Bridget Hustwaite, a passionate advocate for endometriosis, was appalled.
Diagnosed with the chronic condition herself in 2018, Hustwaite – in a statement to Perth Now – said Sheargold’s comments about endometriosis being ‘made up’ were not only medically inaccurate, but also dismissed the very real pain of women who live with the disease.
“Imagine how those people feel hearing this? He claims to be a comedian, but let me tell you, there is nothing funny about a disease that causes organs to stick together or about being told you may never have children.”
Never found him to be funny myself but that’s just me.
This is VERY disappointing he’s gone from the air and network .. that’s probably him done in radio, hope everyone’s happy they’ve pushed a talent off the air. Everything he says is in line with his humour and the shows usual content and anyone upset clearly doesn’t listen regularly.
Glad K&J can still talk about rimming, POC (derogatorily), sex workers, a rapper dropping the N word and that’s all just one podcast I listened to… beat up.
A sad day for comedy and radio in this country.
SCA’s national charity partner (1 of only 2) is Endometriosis Australia, so I’d dare say it’s Marty’s commentary about Endo that carried more weight to this “mutual parting of ways” – even more so than the Matildas comments.
Can ARN learn something from this…. no consequences for Kyle& Jackie O Show of insults….
Very disappointing that Whitney Plowman would stay silent on such disgraceful comments against fellow women.
About time. Maybe I’ll tune in again to his replacement.
Ever since he rhymed Greg Hunt is a .. during Covid I really stopped listening to all of their shows
So it’s totally ok to make fun of poor forming male sporting teams but female sports is out of bounds?
Less people are listening to triple M now then prior to last week even though triple M made the decision they made a week too late. I mean triple M should’ve said to Marty before Luke but they sacked Luke before Marty.
Oh relax, Marty isn’t missing any meals and has pushed plenty of good, hardworking people out of the industry himself. It was the right decision.
Marty was the only reason I listened to the show. His humour was below the belt at times and often not politically correct but he made me laugh – and that is what most of us need.
A good laugh.
I will certainly tune into any radio station that takes him on board if it is broadcast on a GC bandwidth.
To me, it says more about the people who are defending him including on socials than Marty. I’ve lost respect for a number of colleagues in the last day.
It’s not okay. It’s not humour. It’s not a beat up.
And unfortunately it reflects badly on the entire radio industry in the minds of the public, especially after all the publicity about the KJ show in the last year.
It is just a convenient way to get rid of him because he doesn’t rate
When I worked at a network employing Marty, a very senior colleague once said to me “Marty Sheargold’s hourly rate of pay must be the highest in the industry”!
Well I hope he’s saved some of those pennies as he’s unlikely to get a job in radio again, unless its at one of those online-only right wing outlets like NewsMax

All power and glory for the so called ” world cup” failed there and have a 0 from 3 in the latest competition for the matildas.
Marty, You are not as funny as the great late Uncle Doug Mulray that worked on MMM and you were not any where funny as he was!
Marty sheargold is an absolute legend and love the way he goes about his comedy , unfortunately for all his listeners, who have got a sense of humour now miss out on marty everyday .

Its an easy thing to not listen in the first place , at the start each show there are warnings .
Matt Rife has millions of followers who know what they are going to hear , he doesnt hold back just like Marty and they both have combined audiences in the milliones , people who still know that it’s jokes, Matt has many disabled people coming to his shows ,they have heard and seen him take the piss out of disabled people and those disabled people love him and his content.

Omg – this is insane- I love Marty Sheargold- always makes me laugh in the afternoon- love his cheeky humour- he is a comedian. It is outrageous that they have been removed. I really looked forward to listening to them in the car while I waited at school pick up. I am a woman and I was never offended by any comments- I am a generation X though – more resilient than the newer folk these days. He IS SOOO funny in Fisk too- and that has ended too. Sad day for radio. The afternoon radio slot now boring-cannot stand Chrissy Swan- she should have gone. Hope we hear you again soomn Marty and take care of your back !
he apologised and obviously did not mean what he said. comedy gone wrong i’d say? but should he lose his job? i think not. how many chances has the worlds highest paid radio personality, Kyle Sanderland had? Luke Boner gone, MG and Marty? MMM gone for me now after all these years, not a rock station anymore anyhow. Shame MMM, bunch of losers i say.
