Inspiring the next generation of footy stars with Corey’s Little League
KIIS 97.3 Breakfast radio host and former Brisbane Broncos player Corey Oates is stepping back onto the field – this time to inspire the next generation of footy talent with the launch of Corey’s Little League.
Missing the thrill of the game, Corey is forming two Under-12s rugby league teams, the North Side Dino-Knights and the South Side Kanga-Moos.

The teams will go head-to-head in a fun, friendly showdown that’s all about community, confidence and having a go.
PM Anthony Albanese has shown his support for the event, introducing the Prime Minister’s Medal – a special award that will be presented to the Best and Fairest player on the day, honouring sportsmanship, teamwork and heart.
The match will be held on Sunday June 15th, with kick-off at 1.40pm at Souths Logan Magpies, Davies Park – the very club where Corey reignited his career after leaving the Broncos in 2021.
Corey is rallying some of Queensland’s biggest names in rugby league to bring the event to life:
- Jerseys donated by former Origin greats
- On-field coaching by former Brisbane Broncos and Maroons star Matt Gillett
- Live commentary from 7NEWS Queensland Rugby League Analyst Trevor Gillmeister
“Rugby league is a fun game where kids should just be enjoying it,” said Corey. “Kids shouldn’t be worried about their performance or letting their parents down.”
“I really want to help these kids just enjoy the game. Whether they’re skilled or not, I want to show them that the game is fun. It’s not going to be a picture-perfect game; it’s just going to be a game of fun!”
Kiis steal like an artist:
– B105s positioner and traffic sting
– Fox’s Underdogs concept, even including an AFL ball in the logos
– Jase and Laurens Hide and Seek before this
Networking killed this station
@Terry
– Underdogs/ Little league is definitely a stolen tactic, but new to the market, and they need something Corey-centric (and to be petty, rugby ball vs footy)
– ‘Brisbane’s number 1 hit music station’ isn’t necessarily the most creative positioner so wouldn’t count this really
– Hide and Seek has been a tactic since before Jase + Lauren were on radio, a quick google shows examples in 2018, and even if you want to go off most prominent in Australia, J+L Hide and Seek was first done under KIIS in Melbourne, so really Nova actually stole the idea if you want to go off networks owning ideas.
Perhaps we can nitpick ownership of the Secret Sound, Battle of the Sexes, a quiz? Everything in art is stolen
