Industry greats to honour Crockie in live radio tribute show
The ABBA and Bee Gees bangers are at the ready, as former Nova 100 announcer Josh Kirby prepares to host a live radio tribute show tonight in honour of Ian ‘Crockie’ Crockett.
Crockie – former head technician and station manager at Wangaratta’s 1566 3NE (now STAR FM 92.1) – passed away in August at the age of 86.
He was central to the careers of some of the most successful Australian radio talent on air today.
Tonight, Josh will honour the local legend with a two-hour show at the last place where Crockie worked, Wangaratta community station Oak FM 101.3.
Josh tells Radio Today “I have some of Crockie’s past employees giving their tributes to the great man tonight, including include Ty Frost, Patrina Jones, Nikole Gunn, Troy Ellis, Michael Gibbons, Simon Kirby, Orion Kelsall, Toni Pipicelli, Tom Warne, Matt Hobbs and Paul Konik.”
“Crockie influenced many across the industry and I’m sure many would like to tune in to 101.3 Oak FM.”
And Josh has certainly done his homework, getting in touch with Crockie’s son Darren to research all the songs Crockie loved.
That means plenty of ABBA, Bee Gees, Celine Dion, Split Enz, No Mercy, Rod Stewart and Simon and Garfunkel, to name a few!
Perhaps Josh will even break the commercial radio rules (got to love community radio freedom!) and play these artists multiple times during the show.
“Crock would have loved it,” Josh smiles.
The Ian Crockett Tribute Show goes to air tonight (Thursday, October 2) from 6 until 8 on 101.3 Oak FM. Stream it here.
