In Her Own Words: NOVA Entertainment celebrates International Women’s Day

Staff Writer

In celebration of International Women’s Day, NOVA Entertainment has created a podcast series featuring eight inspirational women working within the company.

In Her Own Words examines the issues that affect many of us and while the women in this series are involved in a wide range of media roles, they share a desire for success and a determination to do it in their own way.

James Manning from Media Week conducted the interviews with the participants offering a frank assessment of career highs and lows and how they juggle professional and personal commitments

In Her Own Words features:

Cathy O’Connor – NOVA Entertainment CEO

“Companies and boards, and male executives in particular, need to change their view of what work looks like and be prepared to really judge their staff around output and productivity not presence.”

Kate Murphy – National Commercial Strategy, CREATE

If you are going to be successful commercially you can’t be waiting for the brief or waiting for the market to be buoyant enough to justify your existence… we keep ourselves busy with trying to stimulate the market and new opportunities.”

Mel Doyle – smoothfm weekend host and TV news journalist

“I wish we sometimes didn’t have such a divide, I think men can support women just as much as women can, it’s not a gender specific thing.”

Nat Locke – Nova 93.7’s Nathan, Nat and Shaun breakfast show

“Sometimes you’ve got to take a leap of faith…the whole fake it ‘til you make it kind of thing. I never expected at the outset that I’d still be sitting here 15 years later.”

Chrissie Swan – Nova 100’s Chrissie, Sam and Browny breakfast show

“The real heroes are the women that are working proper full time hours, not like me…and trying to connect with their children, keep their relationship on track and pay the bills. That’s tough. How do they do it? Let me tell you they’re not sitting on the couch thinking “look at me I’ve got it all.”

Tamie Williams – National Head of Direct

“I’ve always been very passionate about sales, been very passionate about people, if you do your job consistently to the best of your ability, it will lead you down a path where you can add the most value to the business and clients.”

Claire Marshall – Music Marketing Director

“You have to be clear on what you want and you have to be patient because it’s all not going to land in your lap”

Jennifer Hansen – smoothfm 91.5 More Music Breakfast show co-host and journalist.

“I am at a good point in my life for sure, we all go through terrible ups and downs and problems that come out of the blue…everyone does but I think the most important thing is to look at the positives you have in your life and focus on them.”

NOVA Entertainment’s partnership with Acast has seen the company become the biggest commercial podcast player in Australia. In Her Own Words is the latest compelling podcast released.

Other commercial offerings including The Broncos Podcast, an extension of a partnership with the Brisbane Broncos, Meet Me At The Barre, a six part series with The Australian Ballet and the award winning Modern Babies, which provides support and knowledge about fertility and the IVF process.

In Her Own Words launches on International Women’s Day, Thursday 8 March, with a further four episodes released on Friday 9 March. To listen to all episodes subscribe at Apple Podcasts, or listen at NOVA Entertainment, Media Week and Acast.
