i98FM Illawarra Convoy 20th anniversary off to a flyer

Reporter

The 20th anniversary of the i98FM Illawarra Convoy is off to a phenomenal start with this week’s Lead Truck Auction and Lead Bike Auction shattering expectations, raising a staggering $1.6 million before a single engine revs for this Sunday’s event.

It brings the total amount raised by Convoy over the past 20 years to $26,880,404.

All funds raised directly support the Illawarra Community Foundation, helping families battling life threatening and life-limiting illnesses.

For the first time, the team from Tiny Tins and Wollongong Crane Trucks will proudly lead the trucks in the Convoy with their $300,020 donation.

2023 Lead Truck bidder Menai Haulage donated $222,281 and MJ Rowles also contributed $110,000 to the total amount raised.

For the fourth consecutive year, Coles Illawarra will lead the motorbikes having donated a winning bid of $220,220.

However, in the ultimate act of generosity, Peter Anderson, Regional Manager for Coles, offered the Lead Bike position to Kris from second-placed Throttle Jockies, who has been facing his own tough cancer battle.

This Sunday’s Convoy will depart under police escort at 8:15am from GM3 Appin (formerly West Cliff Colliery) on Appin Road. It will then travel down Mt Ousley, through Warrawong, past Stockland Shellharbour and finish at the free Family Fun Day, located at Shellharbour Airport.
