“I love storytelling.” Marion Grasby on her radio days

Reporter

Before she became a world-renowned foodie, TV host and entrepreneur, Marion Grasby was an ABC journalist in Adelaide, filing reports for radio programs like The World Today and ABC Rural.

Marion – who studied law and journalism at uni – also worked as a producer on the ABC TV program Stateline.

This month, she’s back on our TV screens, doing what she loves best, hosting Marion Grasby’s Flavours of Heart & Home on SBS.

Catching up with Marion for the latest ep of my Food Bytes podcast, we talked about her radio days in South Australia.

“It was really the storytelling side of things that I’ve always loved,” says Marion, who is incredibly modest when it comes to talking about her radio experience.

“I wasn’t a very good journalist,” she says, then bursts out laughing as she adds “I think much smarter people than me are journalists at the ABC!”

“I wanted to tell stories and wanted to tell them about a subject matter that I was truly, really, personally passionate about,” Marion explains. “So, when I quit the ABC, I went to study a Masters in food and wine history, because I thought that would help me with what I wanted to communicate.”

“Anyway, long story short, I kind of ended up doing television.”

“It was a little bit by accident, I suppose, but I had always been in that media world and I wanted to tell those stories.”

“I’m glad I did end up where I am.”
