“I burst into tears.” Loren Barry expresses outrage on air over shocking homophic slur
Radio host Loren Barry has expressed her outrage on air whilst recounting a homophobic slur that was hurled at her friends over the weekend, which she has reported to police.
Speaking with her Hit Network co-host Nic Kelly on The Hot Hits with Nic & Loren on Monday night, Loren said “I have never in my life been so shaken by something that has happened in front of my face … I was crying.”
Loren said was out walking with her friends when a young man yelled out a homophobic slur from a car aimed, at them:
“F U, You F-ing, [F slur]”.

Loren first addressed the disturbing incident on Instagram, but went further on Monday night’s radio show.
“I went out for a really lovely breakfast with my housemate and his friend. It was about 11.30 in the morning, and we were walking back from the cafe on a very busy road, and a I had my dog with me as well, and I was kind of distracted by him, and I was looking down.”
Loren went on to say that a car went past and someone in it screamed aggressively at her friends, who were in front of her, holding hands.
“They are two homosexual gentlemen, two of the loveliest men you will ever know in your life, walking down the street doing literally nothing wrong.”
“I’d looked up thinking that there was a fight going on nearby. Then I realised this car was directly next to us, and when we looked up as they turned the corner, they screamed it again. And when I say screamed it, I mean with this vicious tone in their voice”
“I burst into tears. I’ve never in my life – and I know that this stuff goes on – I have never in my life been so shaken by something that has happened in front of my face, in front of my eyes. I was crying. They turned to me and they said ‘What? Don’t cry, like this happens all the time,’ which made me even more upset, because this is 2025”
“You’ll be happy to know, I asked the shops around for CCTV, which they had. We went home, we called the non-emergency line, because even my housemate said he was like, ‘I don’t really know what to do,’ but that was the worst that I’ve experienced it.”
Loren said an older man – who was behind them and witnessed the whole thing – was equally horrified and said “On behalf of humanity, I am so sorry.”
Loren’s Insta clip has already generated 17k views and comments from listeners thanking Loren for speaking about this issue on mainstream radio.
