Hybrid radio comes to Samsung

Staff Writer

Last month, Commercial Radio Australia's CEO Joan Warner revealed that the industry here are trying to get DAB+ receiver chips into Samsung Galaxy phones.

Now, the international not-for-profit organisation RadioDNS have announced that in Europe and Asia, three Samsung smartphones will carry RadioDNS Hybrid Radio.

The Galaxy Express 2 LTE, the Galaxy Core Advance, and the Galaxy Grand 2, will have the ability for users to listen to radio via the integrated FM radio but will now include visuals, interaction and have the ability to switch from FM to internet streaming if the signal is poor.

Nick Piggott, the Chair of RadioDNS, said, “This is a landmark for RadioDNS Hybrid Radio, and an exceptional opportunity for radio broadcasters to connect with listeners on their smartphones using broadcast radio. I hope that many radio stations will seize this chance to show that they can make broadcast radio as interesting to use as streaming apps on the smartphone."
