Hundreds of Wave 96.5 listeners turn out for Lyndal & Crammy’s Bath-urst 1000
Radio history was made this week when Lyndal & Crammy from Wave 96.5 successfully raced their ‘bath boats’ across Lake Illawarra in front of a crowd of hundreds in the first-ever Bath-urst 1000 Race.
Kicking off at Club Windang, Lyndal & Crammy travelled 5.74 kilometres to the Illawarra Yacht Club.

The event was months in the making, with the Illawarra region jumping on board to be a part of the big moment, including students from Kanahooka High School, who assisted Lyndal in building her bath boat named ‘Kanahooka Line & Sinker,’ and the team from TASM Plumbing and Leisure Coast Marine both lending their expertise to build ‘The Poo Canoe’ for Team Crammy.
The morning was made complete with a watch party to cheer on either Team Lyndal or Team Crammy and an epic Bath-er Party for the locals to enjoy with a live DJ, jumping castle, photo booth and free breakfast for all who attended.

Content Director Amy Collett said “It’s been really exciting to see the Illawarra get behind this crazy idea. From building the boats to naming them, our listeners have been heavily invested and helping the whole way. To see the community turn up in droves this morning to watch the race was just incredible.”
Guided by multiple Marine Rescue boats, it was neck-and-neck for most of the race.
But the Bath-urst 1000 Champion was the listener favourite, Lyndal. With 56.86% of the votes, she took the crown, her bath boat winning by a length of 20 metres.
Wave 96.5 has thanked its listeners for being a part of this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
