Hughesy spills on radio life with the KIIS Network’s Will & Woody

Reporter

The KIIS Network’s Will & Woody were joined by Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes this week, who opened up about his ‘break’ from radio and what he really thinks about his old station 2DayFM’s new format.

“I’d like to think I’m having a break, so it might be a permanent break, I don’t know … I’m not going to lie. I am really, really, really loving it (having a break). You know, you guys know what it’s like. It’s the daily grind. ‘What idiot do we have to promote today?’ And today I am that idiot.”

“I can talk about what I want to talk about now because the station I was at most recently have just changed their whole music approach and they’re going to current music because apparently current music is the way to go.”

“But when I was there, apparently Mariah Carey was the way to go and we used to have to listen to Mariah Carey every third song for four years, and I would go ‘Who is this appealing to?’ They’d say,‘We know what we’re doing.’  And I’d go, ‘I don’t think you do.’ So, then I left the station and all of a sudden, we’re all new. Thank you.”

Why do producers play applause when guests are introduced? It’s sounds so passé and a little lame.
