Hit’s Jason Bodger opens up about his struggle with Father’s Day

Staff Writer

For many people yesterday was a celebration of fathers but for Hit Mid North Coast‘s Jason ‘Bodge’ Bodger September 2nd marks a yearly struggle.

A far cry from his usual jovial hijinks, Bodge used the holiday to open up about his often strained but always loving relationships with the two patriarchal figures in his life.

“Father’s Day is one of the worst days of the year. By worst, I mean saddest. Not just for me, but for lots of people and for varied reasons,” begins Jason’s confessional.

“It’s a day where I’m reminded that there were 2 men in my life that had the opportunity to be my Dad, and failed.”

The Breakfast presenter goes on to detail how his biological Dad left his family when he was just two-years-old, only to be replaced with his step-dad with whom he slowly became estranged.

Jason shared how this estrangement affected the difficult experience of his passing four years ago.

“There are many people in similar situations to this. People who are feeling a little alone today. I nearly didn’t write this, but thought it was kind of needed,” concludes Jason.

“It’s also been surprisingly therapeutic for me, putting this into writing. For all his faults, he was still my Dad.”
