Greg Smith on the challenges radio faces in the streaming age

Former Assistant Editor

The latest episode of John Caruso‘s Conversations In Noosa podcast features industry legend Greg Smith.

Greg chats with John candidly about his impressive career, discovering Kyle Sandilands, whether Australia has missed the boat when it comes to DAB+ and what radio networks should be doing with their spare digital channels.

They then delve into the challenges faced by radio in this day and age when pitted against the likes of on-demand streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

“Greg Smith had a desire to work in radio from a very young age however he admits that he didn’t have the ‘gift of the gab’, preferring to work behind the scenes instead of in front of a microphone,” said John of the interview.

“Was Greg simply in the right place at the right time or was it his interest in the research and strategic side of radio that landed him at the forefront of what would become a major game changer in the way that radio stations were run in this country.”

Excellent Interview. Loved the Interview style and format. Subject- Greg Smith a very interesting person, with a great Radio History and Background. Would be extremely interesting to do a follow-up interview with Greg re all the incredible Artists, both Australian and Overseas, who Greg has met and had first -hand encounters/times with.
