Good people. Amazing stories. Why Andy Fithall’s podcast is a winner

Reporter

Andy Fithall is an audio engineer by trade. Today, he’s a self-described social entrepreneur – a team of one – and, most recently, the Indie winner of Best Interview Podcast in the 2024 Radio Today Podcast Awards.

And it all came about quite by accident.

Andy’s The Good People podcast amplifies the stories of the good people in our community.

It was developed after Andy was twice made redundant at the beginning of the COVID pandemic.

“Feeling pretty bad about my own shattered career and realising there would be many others in the same situation, I decided to do something community focused,” Andy tells Radio Today.

Andy created a good news show with his two primary school aged sons called In Other Good News.

“Our (very budget) nightly broadcast led us into other community focused activities and instead of just filling a void while we ‘flattened the curve,’ it turned into a mission to grow into an actual org, with a deliberate purpose.”

Andy has spent the last 4 years – through the pandemic and beyond – applying his skills to creating media which focuses on lifting the community, and bringing hope and joy.

He says he’s extremely excited to be the Indie winner of Best Interview Podcast,

“A win is much more for me than bragging rights, it’s a great way to help promote my organisation as a whole, which will result in more impact, and that’s the real goal.”

In a world where it can feel like negativity dominates the media, Andy says The Good People podcast gets us away for a while for some good conversations, with good people who just happen to have some amazing stories

“The podcast is part of a broader ecosystem, which all circles back to doing good, and inspiring others to do good.”
